Wheelchairs make me invisible....and what I decided to do about it

One of the best things about life at the moment is the joy and pleasure I'm getting from not just designing and working on my handmade jewellery but being able to support my three chosen charities as well.  But there are also the corresponding bad bits, and today I want to tell you about my unwanted superpower, one I never knew I had. Let me give you some background. Whenever I go out somewhere with my husband or friends, I have to use either my scooter or a wheelchair to get around more than a few feet. This is because...

Change Needed, Reboot Please

Since I started Sparkly Pretty Things back in August last year to sell my handmade jewellery, I've learned so much not just about websites, social media and networking but also about myself, what's important in life and how much more I have to learn. This last couple of months have been the biggest challenge of all.....After we returned from holiday in early October I had a panic session when I realised how far my reach had dropped on Facebook in my absence. But let me explain from the beginning. For several years before I got ill I had made jewellery for as a hobby. When I became too ill to work I used it as something to pass the time but secondly and more importantly it made me feel more relaxed, calmer. It had the added bonus of being physiotherapy for my hands and fingers. But over time I realised that there...

Countdown to launch - part 1

Just thinking about creating a website is one of the most daunting things I think I've ever done. You see, I'm a perfectionist. But I also have a few pesky chronic health conditions. Everything has to be successful, world beating, business planned, award winning.....all of which is very hard work......and that is no longer a thing I'm able to do, much to my ongoing sadness. In the early days of my illness, when I was working happily in a job I really enjoyed, I had to make some small adjustments, ask for help, accept help, which is never easy for a...
